Cidery Location:  Middlebury VT Tasting Notes:  On the drier side of semi-sweet. I’ve tried most of their lineup; see here. Where Bought:  n/a It is my first time trying this, but I have had most of their line-up (see here). How Supplied:  six pack of 12oz bottles (and kegs) This was lacking carbonation due to its age (the bottles I drank in Spring 2014 had moderate carbonation). Review of Woodchuck Barrel Select, one of their three current Private Reserve ciders (along with Pink and Pumpkin). Notes of floral (rose), orange, and honey, with hints of earthiness and maple. Get the most out of every day and reward yourself as you welcome the night. Semi-dry. Neat! It is my first time trying this, but I have had most of their line-up (see here). Medium to strong apple flavor. Moderate acidity. It’s a deep rich pink with a few visible buttles. But Woodchuck as a producer tends to stick to the sweeter cider, even in the ciders listed or described as being closer to dry. large craft cider made with cider apples:  Schilling Excelsior – This was made using bittersweet cider apples in addition to regular varieties, but remains beginner-friendly, staying a bit sweeter and clean and such. Anthem (Salem OR) Cherry (6.2% ABV):  This is sold year round and now also available in cans. My Opinion:  Yummy! Aromas: hay, overripe apples, tin and tea. It has a nice full body, probably because of that sweetness. Moderate apple influence. The clarity is just so brilliant. Some of the categories overlap. There are a ton of fantastic cideries sharing samples and pairings in a beautiful historic market setting. There’s ultra-craft Vermont Cider Co., iconic Woodchuck, fruit-forward Wyder’s as well as the classic Magners Irish Cider and Blackthorn, rounding out our import offerings. Where Drank:  home ginger-infused:  Kystin Kalysie – I’m not a ginger fan, but I actually enjoyed the hint of ginger in this French perry. The maple scent in the air is quite strong. Low tartness. I picked some up on vacation, and got lucky when I returned the next year and they still had 1 bottle left, but haven’t seen it locally. Low flavor intensity. Review of Woodchuck’s Semi-Dry, their newest flagship cider. Mild complexity. Low carbonation. Very fruit-forward. Still if you like strawberries, blackberries, or crave one last hint of summer, this is a fine Rosé choice! My Opinion:  I thought it was ok. How Supplied:  12oz bottles (six pack). About 40% of cider drinkers are in their 20s, and the ‘millennial pink’ trend even mirrors the colors of rosé cider packaging. >>This is a review of a sample can provided to Cider Says by Woodchuck. Must be 21+ to follow. I do taste both elements in the name: oak and straw. How Found:  it showed up. They definitely came out with some weird ones! How Found:  it showed up. Low acidity. Notes of apple juice, orange, and yeast. No sourness or funk. Item. It’s  semi sweet and relatively well balanced with it’s medium-high acidity but no tannins. Have you tried Woodchuck Private Reserve Barrel Aged Cherry? What did you think? I wasn’t feeling the Pineapple and wouldn’t fathom drinking a pint of Sriracha Lime (not a fan of more than a sip of spicy ciders), so Woodchuck it was. I liked how it was flavorful but not overly sweet. It starts sweet then moves to a moderate tart (quick) finish. Other favorite ciders of mine which have a lovely fruit-forward flavor but aren’t “flavored’ are Eaglemount Quince and Reverend Nat’s Revival. Cider:  Bubbly Pearsecco This is a pear and apple blend rather than a perry. The combination works reasonably well, but it’s pretty far afield from the typical cider experience. Review of Woodchuck Tank Series release #2, Cucumber Mint. A hint of tannins. Happy New Year! Woodchuck Summer Time delivers a crisp pear cider bursting with fresh ginger for a taste that refreshes like a cool jump in your favorite swimming hole. Woodchuck introduced a pearsecco in 2018 with a light blue can, and Wyder’s pearsecco bottles also have blue labeling. I enjoy the bubbly and tart qualities about it plenty. My Opinion:  I’m not a ginger fan, but my husband really liked this cider. High sessionability. Smells of sweet pear juice with spicy ginger. Aromas: hibiscus, minerals, berries, dust. THe strongest impression I get when I drink this cider is how rich and very flavorful it is. It is my first time trying this, but I have had most of their line-up (see here). A truly rare cider which proves that patience is indeed a virtue. Product Details. Low to moderate acidity. I previously tried this pre-blog, plus I’ve had most of Woodchuck’s line-up (see here). It shines. Availability:  Wide release, but only for the next 60-90 days or so (as Out on a Limb rotates varieties). Although I will take care to treat it the same as any other review, there is always the potential for bias as I received it for free. Cidery:  Woodchuck Closing Notes:   Spicy ciders just aren’t my thing, and I think of them as more of a novelty. Low acidity and tartness. I didn’t care for this at all, due to the sourness. Opinion:  Semi-sweet (Woodchuck says sweet but I don’t find this one all that sweet oddly enough). No to low carbonation. The tannins were unique. Moderate apple flavor. Cidery Location:  Middlebury VT Central City Limited Edition Imperial Cider, Ferme de Beau Soleil Cidre Fermier Bio Brut, Woodchuck Private Reserve Barrel Aged Cherry, Woodchuck Out on a Limb Campfire Pancakes, Fenceline Whip & Tongue, Spur Bearer, and Pommeau. I didn’t find it flavorful enough. Bubbly Pearsecco Cider Info: Cidery: Woodchuck. Semi-dry. It was Out on a Limb of a juniper tree that we found this new concoction. Medium bodied. Light bodied. Ingredients:  Hard cider, less than 1% 0f: natural apple flavor, sulfites. However, it has turned out quite well as it is even less of a commitment; I can get a single 12 oz bottle from the six pack (many stores split them up) instead of a 22 oz bottle. This cider is a digression from their primarily sweeter lineup, likely in response to consumers requesting a drier cider. Do not expect anything different than rich desserty sweetness! Wish I could find more. Cider Description:  A touch of Michigan cherries with a hint of Napa all in one satisfying sip. (the bottle almost looks red in this photo, but its the normal brown), Cider:  Private Reserve Barrel Aged Cherry What did you think? Tasting Notes:  Semi-dry to semi-sweet. We reinvigorated American cider in 1991 and continue to lead the category through our commitment to craft innovative and refreshing hard ciders. How Found:  n/a. And one last link before the end of this week’s reviews. Review of Woodchuck’s Pear Ginger, a new variety of Summer Time (which has previously only referred to their blueberry cider, which won’t be released this year at least).
